“From Headhunters to Soul Hunters”: One Ancient Tribe’s Journey as Warriors of One Kingdom…to Another

God’s catalyzing a movement in Gen Z—and this Arizona church won’t be left out.

Jim Capaldo, former Regional President of ������ʷ Heartland and missionary to Russia for 18 years, describes the unprecedented growth of the Ukrainian church as “the greatest movement of God in Europe since the Reformation.” Thousands have come to faith and been baptized. Ministry continues to widows, orphans, and wounded soldiers; churches provide families blankets, food, necessities—as well as counseling an entire nation suffering beneath post-traumatic stress.

Renca Dunn is one person of only 2% of her people group that know Jesus—a people group of 70 million. As a group, she articulates, “We’ve been made to feel ashamed. We’ve been oppressed. We’ve been rejected. We’ve been made fun of. We’ve been looked down upon. We’ve been viewed as people others need to fix.” Their “offense”? Deafness.

Consider the lamp on a stand of Matthew 5, giving light to all in the house: “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (v. 16). Adel prays the hearers of his story would see what God’s calling them to, including the mysteries of place, partnership, and even obstacles to which they’re called to overcome.
