We are collaborating with the alliance of Protestant churches in Thies to purchase a plot of land that will become a cemetery for the dozen or so small Protestant churches in Thies. Most of the pastors are bi-vocational and the churches struggle to pay them decently for their dedicated pastoral work.  

Help us train and coach vocational students in Disciple Making principles and practices so they can start Discovery Bible Studies in the communities wherever they find employment.

Young adults in Senegal often struggle to afford the schooling or technical training required to qualify for better paying jobs. Christian teachers, particularly, are in a position to be role models and have a positive influence on Muslim students and their parents. This project currently provides scholarships for young adults who desire to become preschool and primary school teachers. The scholarship pays for a one-year teacher training program that certifies participants to teach in Senegal’s public and private preK-6 grade schools. We also want to prepare these new teachers to lead Discovery Bible Studies (DBS) with their colleagues and others in the communities where they teach. So, in addition to their vocational training, they receive training in Disciple Making Movement (DMM) principles and practices. Full scholarships of $1300 for the one-year program are wonderful, but contributions of any amount help us send certified Christian teachers to schools throughout Senegal. Our goal is to equip 10 newly certified Christian teachers each year, sending out 150 teachers in 15 years.

Hôpital Barthimée is a small Christian hospital providing quality health care in a low-income Muslim community. Competent health care offered with Christian love demonstrates to Muslims the grace and mercy of Jesus. At Barthimée, Muslims encounter Christian doctors and hospital staff. Chaplains pray with patients and comfort them with Scripture, while always on the lookout for Muslims open to hearing more of the Bible and more about Jesus. The Christian Hospital Outreach Project finances two Christian chaplains at Hôpital Barthimée, supports a fund for the poorest patients who cannot pay for their health care, and helps to buy much needed equipment to diagnose and treat patients.

Help us comfort patients with prayer and encouragement from the Scriptures while seeking Muslims with a soft heart toward Jesus and an interest in the Bible. Support for two part-time chaplains costs about $850/month.

Few West African Muslims know what the Bible teaches. Many believe the Bible has been changed or corrupted and Muslims should avoid the Bible because it might lead them astray or deceive them. There are few evangelical Christians in this country where 97% of the population is Muslim and nearly 3% are Roman Catholic. Among the most cost-effective ways to reach Senegal’s 16 million people are radio broadcasts and social media ads. Millions of villagers do not have electricity or televisions, but every adult listens to a small battery-powered radio. Christian radio programs in local African languages reach a large and widespread audience. Many new Christian radio programs need to be written and shaped. Native speakers will then be employed to record the programs for radio broadcasts. Then airtime must be purchased in cities around the country for long-term broadcasting. Young people in Africa are drawn to the internet and social media sites like Facebook. Focused ads need developing to connect interested Muslims with a clear and appealing website where they can learn more about the Bible and Jesus. At the appropriate time they can connect online with a Christian from their language and cultural background.
